The locative case (знахі́дний відмі́нок) is used to express location, either in place or in time, it's not used with the destination. Locative always comes with a preposition: на - on, at, в, у - in, at, and less frequently: о - at (time), по - along (motion), при - by. The word “місцевий” is derived from Ukrainian “місце” (a place).
Кни́га на я́щику (from nom: я́щик). - The book is on the box.
Кни́га в я́щику. - The book is in the box.
Я в Аме́риці (from nom: Аме́рика).- I am in America.
Ми знахо́димося на дру́гому по́версі (from nom: по́верх). - We are located on the second floor.
Ми почина́ємо робо́ту о во́сьмій годи́ні. - We start the work at eight o'clock.
Я йду по доро́зі (from nom: доро́га). - I go along the road.
Note: Alternation of consonants occurs before the “і” ending in Dative and Locative case ("г / з", "к / ц", "х / с").
Note: locative case is not used with directions
Студе́нт поста́вив кни́гу в ящик. - Student placed the book in (into) the box. ("ящик" is in accusative case)
Я ї́ду в Аме́рику. - I am going to America, ("Аме́рику" is in accusative case)
Ми підніма́ємося на дру́гий по́верх. - We are going up to the second floor. ("по́верх" is in accusative case)

Тарі́лка на столі́. (from nom: стіл) - The plate is on the table
Чолові́к чека́є авто́бус на зупи́нці.(from nom: зупи́нка) - A man is waiting for a bus at the stop.
Студе́нти навча́ються в університе́ті. (from nom: університе́т)- The student study at the university.
Я чита́ю кни́гу в бібліоте́ці.(from nom: бібліоте́ка) - I'm reading a book at the library.
Він сиди́ть на крі́слі. (from nom: крі́сло) - He is sitting on a chair.
Де́рево росте́ при доро́зі. (from nom: доро́га) - The tree grows by the road.
Вона́ підніма́ється по схо́дах. (from nom: схо́ди) - She is going up the stairs
О котрі́й годи́ні почина́ється ле́кція. (from nom: котра́ годи́на)- At what time the lecture begins.
О дев'я́тій годи́ні - At 9 o'clock.
Об одина́дцятій годи́ні - At 11 o'clock. (Note: "об" before a vowel "o")
